Colored by Annie, Helena, Montana (Vol. 1).
This is an beautiful example of a mandala to which the artist has added many personal symbols. Because Annie is the only one who holds the key to the interpretation of these symbols, the story her mandala tells remains a well-guarded secret. Her creation is therefore safe to show without fear that we will invade the privacy of her inner world.
This principle is true, incidentally, of any colored mandala. To us viewers it's like looking at hieroglyphs without knowing their code, or perhaps listening to a foreign language. We can appreciate the beauty without needing to know the meaning.
Fun question: Of the 91 original mandala designs in Monique's four coloring books, can you tell which one Annie used?
